ZhuQue-3

Zhuque-3 (ZQ-3) is a reusable medium-to-heavy lift launch vehicle being developed by the Chinese private aerospace company LandSpace. Built primarily from stainless steel, the two-stage rocket uses liquid oxygen and methane propellants and is intended to provide low-cost, high-capacity access to orbit.

Performance
In an expendable configuration, Zhuque-3 can deliver about 21,300 kilograms to Low Earth Orbit. With first-stage recovery via a downrange landing, the payload capacity is about 18,300 kilograms, and with a return to the launch site, it can carry about 12,500 kilograms to orbit.

Specs

Height: ~76.6 meters

Diameter: ~4.5 meters

Liftoff mass: ~660 tonnes

Stages: 2

The rocket is designed for rapid reuse, with a target of up to 20 flights per first stage. Recovery modes include both downrange barge landings and return-to-launch-site operations. Its stainless steel structure is intended to withstand multiple reentries, while grid fins, landing legs, and reentry burns provide control and stability for vertical landings.

The first stage is powered by nine Tianque-12A or 12B engines, operating on methane and liquid oxygen. Later versions of the vehicle’s second stage are expected to use a single Tianque-15B vacuum-optimized engine. These engines are designed for multiple restarts and efficient reusability.

LandSpace has completed a series of tests to validate Zhuque-3’s systems, including vertical takeoff and landing hops up to 10 kilometers and a full nine-engine static fire replicating flight conditions. The company is advancing toward an inaugural orbital launch, currently expected in 2026.
