
On August 12th, 2026, a total solar eclipse occurred for 1 minute and 49 seconds in Tineo, Spain.
At just 10.5º above the horizon, the moon covered the sun, revealing solar flares and the sun’s corona with a vibrant warm color.
The timelapse stack image was shot from a single fixed camera using a combination of solar filter exposures for the partial eclipse phases and without any filter during totality for both the eclipse and the background of the image.
"Watching the eclipse looked most similar to the wide shot with the blue sky and flowers and the close-up shots," said photographer Justin Hartney. "The red solar flares looked crisp to the naked eye and contrasted the rest of the solar corona."
For Spain, it was the first total solar eclipse in over a century.
The Moon passed between the Sun and Earth and blacked out the Sun completely across parts of Greenland, Iceland, northern Russia, Spain, and a small corner of Portugal.
