Wang Jie was born in September 1989 in Urad Front Banner, Bayannur League, Inner Mongolia, China. He earned a bachelor’s degree in aircraft manufacturing engineering from Shenyang Aerospace University, followed by both a master’s and a doctorate in mechanics from Beihang University (Beijing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics). Selected in September 2020 as part of China’s third group of astronauts, Wang joined the People’s Liberation Army Astronaut Corps and also worked as a spacecraft engineer at the China Academy of Space Technology, focusing on micro‑vibration suppression for the Tiangong space station’s optical cabin. He launched on 24 April 2025 aboard the Shenzhou 20 spacecraft to serve as a flight engineer on China’s Tiangong space station.
